Sunday Night Popcorn (Part 4 of 4)

We all sat in our places at the table and Mom put the Tuperware full of popcorn in the center.
Dad called on someone to say the blessing on the food. Whoever it was who said it would say something like, "...and bless the popcorn already in our stomachs." It was hard to keep from giggling at this, but then it was always hard to keep from giggling during the prayer when there were so many small children in your family.
After the prayer, we would attack the popcorn. Dad and I had contests to see who could stuff the most popcorn into his mouth at once. Most of the girls were more dainty, placing a handful of popcorn on their napkin and eating only one piece at a time while taking a sip on their Ovaltine occasionally.
On the rare Sundays when we had actual hot chocolate, we placed marshmallows in the chocolate. It was fun to watch them slowly melt. Other times, even more rare, Dad came around to each of us and dropped a scoop of ice cream in our cup of hot chocolate. That's a weird combination. To drink the hot chocolate while at the same time tasting the cold, but melting ice cream going down your throat. Popcorn is tasty. Ovaltine or hot chocolate are good. But having Sunday night popcorn and a warm drink with your family is the very best!

Coming tomorrow: "We're Poor Too!"
