“We’re Poor Too!” (Part 1 of 5)

We loved being together as a family. And we loved going on vacations together. There were times when Dad would be on vacation from work, but he would stay home and let Mom go to BYU Education Week. That was her time to recharge her spiritual and mental batteries. We’d do fun things at home and we’d go down town with Dad. He’d take us to places were he ate lunch sometimes. And we’d tour the Beehive House and go up to the Church Office Building and look out over the valley from the tallest building in the city.
But the times when we were all together as a family, were always cherished. We enjoyed camping, but really anything was great. Just as long as we were together.
When traveling long distances, we liked to stay in motels that had a swimming pool. After riding in the hot car all day, a dip in the pool was only moments away from our pulling into a motel. Later we learned that it didn’t take great distances to justify a motel. Once all the males in the family wanted to go camping for our vacation. All the females wanted to go to a motel and swim. We compromised. We went camping at Bryce Canyon and then drove to Heber City and stayed in a motel and swam. It was an enjoyable trip all the way around.
