One year we planed our vacation around a short, one-afternoon-trip across the boarder into Mexico. Before Dad and Mom got married, Dad had been in the Army in El Paso, Texas. Dad remembered with fondness his trips across the boarder into Juarez, Mexico.
On the way, we made a stop in Rama, New Mexico to see Bill Coho, our foster Indian brother from a few years before. Bill was out riding his horse, but we did see his family. In their home they had twelve people living in a two-room house the size of our front room and kitchen. After that we pushed on to Albuquerque where we stayed in a motel and swam. Then it was on to El Paso where we were just glad to get a motel room. I remember the toilet didn’t work very well and nobody came to fix it. So Dad fixed it himself.
