Well as the science fair drew near, I decided to do my project on light wave communication and fiber optics. Dad designed a transmitter and receiver that took an audio signal and converted it to a beam of light which was then transmitted through a length of fiber optic cable and then to be received and decoded back into sound. Dad drew out a schematic diagram for the transmitter and receiver. I built all the equipment for this project and even made three matching red, white, and blue metal boxes to contain everything. Dad and I stayed up all night the night before the science fair, making it work. And it did! I won honorable mention and could have won first place, except my oscilloscope, which I also built myself, looked too professional.
