The next year, ninth grade, was Concert Band. We had all worked so hard to be there and now we had finally done it. My sister Vera, who as a seventh grader was one of the first seventh graders to tryout and make it into the predominately ninth grader Concert Band. She played the oboe and she also had excellent musical ability. She had such an important role, too. Never before had I a school class with Vera in it. It was quite a novelty to have her in the same band as me. It was quite prestigious for her to be a seventh grader, too. We were all excited to begin the school year.
