For This Is Our Promised Valley (Part 2 of 7)

In the early 1970s the Church acquired an old theater in downtown Salt Lake. This became the Promised Valley Playhouse and became the home for the musical to be produced each summer. That’s when we first saw it as a family. I’m sure my parents had seen Promised Valley before. Having grown up in Salt Lake, how could they not have? But we children had not yet seen it, even though Mom and Dad played violin duets from the music.
Then one summer morning, Dad announced at the breakfast table that we were going to see Promised Valley that night. That night we put on nice clothes and rode in the station wagon to Dad’s work, were we parked next to KSL Broadcast House. We drove through the maze of the levels of the parking garage until we got to Dad’s parking stall. We got out and made our way to the elevator. Soon we were on the street of Social Hall Avenue. Then we walked a block south on State Street. Dad led us to an old theater which was very fancy. It was all lit up and it had lots of little lights outlining it as well. It was the Promised Valley Playhouse!
