Karen was always doing something creative. Some project or craft or making some food item. Usually it was a yummy treat. Karen is exactly two months shy of being four years younger than me. Still, we were close enough in age to be more contemporaries than for her to be my “little” sister.
As we grew up, I thought I had accomplished a lot just by making pancakes for the family. At the same time, Karen was making her first loaves of bread and her first pies. It seemed she would make a loaf of bread and then Dad would take her picture. She was always doing cute things that drew peoples’ attention. When she learned a funny song in school – Dad took her all over the neighborhood to have people hear her. When she learned to play a Church hymn on the piano – again Dad took her all over the neighborhood to show her off. He also arranged for her to play it in Sacrament Meeting.
