My Sister Karen (Part 2 of 9)

Karen has a heart of gold. Many times she made goodies and some of them were for the family, but a large portion were for a Sunday School teacher or youth leader. One lady she particularly enjoyed was Sister Samsel. For a while there, we felt a bit left out. Every time Karen made cookies or sweet rolls or anything, it was always for Sister Samsel. “Don’t eat too much dough. These cookies are for Sister Samsel,” would be Karen’s stern, but kind reply.
But most of the time Karen always made sure there was enough for us as well as for whoever she was making the treat for. Karen loved to cook and we all loved to have her cook. One summer she saw me making my lunch and going to work every day with essentially the same thing to eat each day. On a Sunday night she said to me, “I’ll make your lunch for you every day this week.” And she did. Yes, it was still a sandwich each day and a few other items, but every time at lunch time that week was an eating experience that I’ll never forget. And it was all thanks to Karen’s creativity and culinary talents.
