But music wasn’t the only thing in Vera’s life. She was also, and continues to be, a very good athlete. At Bonneville Junior High, she broke the jump rope record by jumping rope way over a thousand times. Vera and I attended a sports camp right at Bonneville the summer before Vera’s seventh grade year. This helped her later on to be on the girl’s varsity volleyball team. I went to watch her play one time. In the rotation of the players, Vera started off as the server. She had such a deadly over-hand serve, that they won that match 14-0 with Vera serving the whole time.
