Old Brown of Bryce Canyon (Part 4 of 8)

Lunch was a simple meal of tuna fish sandwiches that Mom had prepared at home early that morning. We ate quickly and then forged on ahead to Bryce Canyon. Soon we left the Red Canyon area and drove across a plain with just sage brush. Some pink cliffs were off in the distance and these again signaled the nearness of Bryce Canyon. We drove through a heavily forested area. A car in front of us slowed down and we stopped also as we drew near it. The driver of that car had his arm out the window motioning us to look at what was in the road. It was a large bird just standing there in the middle of the road! Dad snapped a picture of it before we carefully drove around it.
A few minutes later we stopped again, this time at the toll booth for the entrance of Bryce Canyon National Park. Dad paid the entrance few and we drove on, passing the Visitor Center on the way. A few minutes later we pulled into one of the campgrounds and drove around the big circle until we found an empty camping spot. It seemed that Bryce Canyon had gotten more and more popular over the years. This year we were lucky to still find a campground this late in the day. In later years we would have to find a campground outside Bryce Canyon for the first night and then get a campsite early the next day inside Bryce Canyon.
