The task of setting up camp was now upon us. Our camp was under several towering Ponderosa pine trees. It was right across the way from the brick restrooms which had heavy metal doors with large springs on them. It seamed that whenever anyone went in or out of them, the springs vibrated and moaned and then the door would go "bang!" all through the night. Fortunately we just ignored them and didn't let that intrusion distract us from the backwoods experience of camping.
We quickly set up our big tent and my little orange scout pup tent. Everyone helped carry sleeping bags into the tents while Mom set up the table with the cooking gear. The other kids started to play as Dad and I set up the dinning fly over the picnic table. We placed the center pole in the middle of the picnic table and tied the ropes of the four corners to nearby trees.
