When she was in second or third grade, Julie started piano lessons from a young woman down the street named Anderson. One song, My Country Tis of Thee, Julie particularly liked. She played it over and over until she had it memorized. Whenever she walked by the piano she played that song. She could play it fast and she could play it slow, but mostly very fast. No matter where you were in the house, you could hear that song played on the piano and know that Julie was right there.

On a side note, one winter day Julie came home from her piano lesson. She came around the back to come in the house from the back door. There was a very big icicle hanging from the roof of the house which we had not touched. We were trying to see if it would grow big enough to touch the ground. It was very thick at the top but it narrowed down to a very small icicle at the bottom. Julie thought she’s break off that tiny part. She reached out and snapped it off. At that moment, the entire icicle came crashing down on Julie. She required quite a few stitches to get her head taken care of. We all felt so bad. Even years later, dad would go around a house and clear off growing icicles so they wouldn't get too large.
