The next day was the greatly anticipated trip to Nauvoo. The weather was very bad in the morning. Everyone feared that the trip would need to be canceled, but as we boarded the bus, the weather began to change. There was nice weather for the day-long visit to Nauvoo. There were full-time elder missionaries that took the group on their tour as well as missionary couples who staffed places like the black smith shop, bakery, and print shop. There were many places special to Church History like the temple lot, where the foundations of the Nauvoo temple could still be seen.
There was also the spot where the pioneers crossed the Mississippi River when it was frozen over as they were forced to leave. I thought of my ancestors, some of whom might have made such an exodus. I was deeply moved at that spot.
