Fat Man’s Misery (Part 7 of 8)

Shortly after dawn we started again. It wasn’t long until we found the road. And there was the truck, broken down, but loaded with all our stuff. The very first thing we did was to break out last night’s dinner. Hot dogs. The Santa Clara boys built a fire and about 20 feet away we built a fire right in the middle of the dirt road. We found sticks and roasted the hot dogs right there. After that we dug down through the camping equipment in the truck and found breakfast -- paper bowls, plastic spoons, milk and the cold cereal – Sugar Pops.
We were still tired, but we had solved our problem of being hungry. But now what? We were in the middle of the wilderness with a broken-down truck. Salt and Pepper instructed us all to get behind the truck and try to push-start it. We pushed for a long time and we joked that we’d be pushing it all the way back to St. George. It began to sputter and back-fire and finally started!
